As an amateur photographer who competes in the Nature category, I find it frustrating to try and track down Latin names for wildlife. I don't have a big encyclopedia of flora and fauna; many sites that advertise that kind of information are trying to sell you a book; and sometimes when the information is free, it's hard to find the right info for a geographic region, or the pictures are lacking. For example, I found a site that claims to list all the frogs found in California, but the photos were all of adult frogs. None of them resembled the photos I took of baby frogs.
Hence this site, where I will point to resources for identifying both plant and animal wildlife. If I can round up some volunteer experts, I may accept submissions and post pictures for them to identify.
